“Dexter” fans got an exciting surprise at Comic-Con‘s panel for the prequel series, “Original Sin.” Not only is original star Michael C. Hall set to narrate the prequel series, but he’ll be back on screen in an all new sequel series, “Dexter: Resurrection.”
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO, of the new series. “While ‘Dexter: Ressurection’ will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, ‘Dexter: Original Sin‘ will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”

The original “Dexter” aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, followed by “Dexter: New Blood” in 2021, which picked up 10 years after the original finale. “Resurrection” will be a sequel series to “New Blood,” taking place in present day. It will debut in Summer 2025. Additionally, previous seasons of both shows are available for subscribers on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan. (On Saturday, we also asked Hall how Dexter will return after dying at the end of “New Blood.”)

The original show has been rising on the Neilsen charts in the past two months; in the week of June 24, it landed at No. 2 on the top 10 chart (behind Showtime’s “Your Honor”), ranking in 1.48 billion viewing minutes across all platforms and beating out top shows “The Bear,” “The Boys” and “Bridgerton.”

Hall appeared at the “Dexter: Original Sin” panel in San Diego on Friday, joining showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, executive producer Scott Reynolds and cast members Christian Slater, Patrick Gibson and Molly Brown. Guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar served as the moderator.
The 10-episode prequel is set in 1991, 15 years before the events of “Dexter,” following the lead character (Gibson) “as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer.” It will debut on Paramount+ With Showtime in December.
Per the official synopsis, “When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”
Slater portrays Dexter’s father, Harry Morgan, and Brown plays his sister Debra. Patrick Dempsey also stars in the series as Aaron Spencer, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide who has a longstanding relationship with Harry. Gellar portrays Dexter’s boss at the station. Additional new cast members include James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu and Reno Wilson.
